Due to the serious humanitarian crisis in Venezuela, more than 1,000,000 Venezuelan citizens arrived in Peru in mid-2018.
More than 17,000 arrived in the city of Chiclayo.
Forced to leave their country because of human rights violations, political persecution and poor living conditions, the Venezuelans arrived with few personal possessions to try and live a better life. However, the Peruvian state wasn't prepared to receive this massive migration and doesn't have programs in place to meet the needs of so many displaced persons.
Without other options, migrants are forced to live in shelters or makeshift shelters, in overcrowded houses and in precarious conditions.
Funds raised will go to the Chiclayo sponsor site to help meet the needs of 530 vulnerable migrants including children, teenagers and adults with chronic diseases who are in great need of medical care, food packages, housing support, beds and mattresses. Staff will also help migrants obtain refugee documents so they can legally stay in the country and access public services.
