On December 2, 2019 Typhoon Kummari affected most of the areas in the province of Northern Samar, in the Philippines.
The storm cancelled classes and offices, destroyed houses and other properties, and toppled electricity and communication lines (which still haven't been repaired).
After the typhoon, field workers visited sponsored families and found many damaged houses. The sponsor site has asked for assistance for 14 families whose homes were either totally destroyed or severely damaged. These families' daily incomes are barely enough for their basic necessities and they have no means to rebuild these homes themselves. Most of the parents are laborers, farmers or casual workers and two recipients are elders who lived alone in their small shanties. Currently most of these families are staying with relatives while others build a temporary shelter out of the remains of their houses.
The homes will be rebuilt with strong logs and galvanized iron sheet roofs to withstand future storms. Families will assist by providing labour.
While it is true that these people are hardworking, they still don't have enough funds reserved to rebuild after the typhoon.
