Henry is 10 years old and lives with his father and siblings near our Tondo sponsor site in urban Manila.

Chalice critical needs - wound treatment and foot surgery for Henry, The PhilippinesHis father, a builder by trade, is the sole income earner for the family after Henry lost his mother. He is grateful for Henry's Chalice sponsor who helps him afford his son's school fees and other essentials. The family is especially grateful as COVID-19 restrictions have made it difficult for Henry's father to find construction work.

Henry was playing outside this summer when he cut his foot on a piece of broken glass. He was rushed to the hospital for stitches and was prescribed antibiotics. The wound did not heal and there was infection. The Tondo sponsor site helped him get an appointment with a pediatric surgeon, who ordered an MRI. The scan showed there were still fragments in his foot, and there's now a possibility of osteomyelitis (swelling of the bone). Surgical debridement treatment of the wound and a prolonged schedule of antibiotics will be required for Henry's foot to heal.

The cost of the laboratory fees, the specialist consultation, the MRI and his hospitalization will amount to $3,258.55 CAD, far exceeding Henry's father's humble means.
