Marie Mitrène was the mother of seven children living near our Haiti South sponsor site.

Chalice critical needs - Family support and funeral expenses for deceased mother, Haiti SouthAfter the passing of her husband in 2009, she raised the children alone with the income she could earn as a farmer. She and her family have been grateful for her daughter Abnaïse's Chalice sponsor.

At the end of July, Marie Mitrène went out to cut firewood with her machete. She cut her arm badly and was rushed to the hospital. She underwent surgery and was being treated in the hospital. Tragically, a week later she succumbed to her injury and died. She was 55 years old.

Marie Mitrène's passing not only leaves a hole in the hearts of her children, but places them in a highly vulnerable financial situation. Her hospitalization incurred costs, as well as her funeral. Additionally, the price of everyday essentials, especially food items, are exorbitantly high in Haiti, leaving Abnaïse and her siblings susceptible to food insecurity. Marie Mitrène's children are at risk of dropping out of school because of the cost of materials, tuition, and uniforms.

The Haiti South staff have requested $1,814.08 CAD to cover the balance of Marie Mitrène's hospital fees and funeral expenses, as well as a six-month supply of groceries and the necessary funds to ensure all seven children can return to classes. Your support will be a great comfort to a family who has undergone tragedy amid already challenging circumstances in their country.
