Chalice has been partnering with the Amanecer (“Sunrise”) Religious Foundation, based in the city of Cochabamba, since 2004.
Founded by the Daughters of Charity of St Vincent de Paul, the Foundation runs three shelter homes for vulnerable youth, aged 8-17, who are living on the street or are at high social risk. Two homes are for boys and one home is for girls.
In the last two months, cases of COVID-19 in the Cochabamba area have increased. There have now been instances in which shelter staff have come to work having unknowingly contracted the virus in the community. This has placed all the children and their fellow staff members at high risk of contracting COVID-19 as well.
The Amanecer sponsor site has requested funds to equip the three homes to better protect their children and staff from the pandemic that is still posing a great danger. Through your support of this project, the site would install disinfection chambers that would sanitize all people entering the shelters’ premises. The site will also buy a full supply of multivitamins for all the youth in the homes, to keep their immune systems healthy and strong. Lastly, the site will also help the people who have contracted COVID-19 to access lung scans and follow up on their recovery.Through this project, 58 children and 31 staff members will have greater protection from the spread of COVID-19.
