He hit his head hard and cut his cheek badly. Eder was conscious but bleeding, so his family took him to the public clinic for stitches but after arrival, he started convulsing and vomiting.
The doctor diagnosed him with a hematoma in his head requiring emergency surgery. He was taken to the private hospital for surgery because the public hospitals are only admitting people sick with Covid-19. The next day, due to complications he required a second operation.
Eder has suffered a traumatic brain injury and remains in the Intensive Care Unit.
The hospital has estimated the cost of Eder’s surgeries plus ongoing hospital care at $26,723.97. His family has taken a loan to make the first payment of nearly $10,000 but the astronomical hospital costs far exceed their ability to pay.
Eder’s part-time salary is about $188 per month and he uses this money to pay for his education. He doesn’t have private health insurance and the public Integral Social Insurance only coves a very small amount in public hospitals but nothing for private hospitals. The sponsor site director is asking Chalice to help Eder and his family cover the cost of his medical care so they can repay their loan and cover the balance remaining to the hospital. His family is obviously stressed and worried about his injury; removing the additional stress caused by the cost of his care will be a huge blessing.
