Project Type: Health
Project Code: PCC0221B
Background: Ricardo is 56 years old and lives near our Chiclayo sponsor site in Peru.
For two years, he has suffered from moderate to severe epilepsy in addition to insomnia and anxiety. In December 2020, he fell onto the street, resulting in an injury to his head. After a few days, he began to convulse every 30 minutes. He was hospitalized for a day and then discharged to avoid a possible contagion by COVID-19. The seizures continued.
His family took him to a medical appointment with the neurologist, who has prescribed antidepressants for anxiety and sedatives for sleeping. The doctor also ordered a CT scan and MRI, which he has not been able to complete because his family does not have the financial resources to pay for them. Prior to the pandemic, Ricardo worked making deliveries on his cargo tricycle, but he has not been able to work in nearly a year. He has lost weight due to lack of appetite and remains in his bed most of the time because he has difficulty walking. When he does walk, he has to use a broomstick to support himself.
The neurologist needs the results of the scans before he can provide further recommendations for treatment. He is only taking antidepressants and sedatives, which do nothing to treat his underlying condition and his quality of life is very poor.
Ricardo is single, he lives with his elderly mother and his sister, who works as a street vendor. They can barely support themselves and do not have the resources to pay for these critical tests. The sponsor site director has asked Chalice for $677.93 to cover the cost of the CT and MRI scans so Ricardo's doctor can diagnose him properly and prescribe the correct medication to help him live a better life.
Funding Request: $677.93
Please note that any donations that exceed the request will be used to fund other critical need emergencies that may arise.
