Ten-year-old sponsored child Krizza lives near our Tondo sponsor site in the Philippines with her parents and four siblings.
This past November she felt a soft lump on her lower abdomen and noticed she was losing patches of hair. Her parents took her to see a doctor and were told she needed an ultrasound. She was initially sent to the National Kidney and Transplant Institute for a second opinion because of the location of the lump, but the ultrasound showed it was not related to her kidneys. Krizza was then referred to the Philippine Children's Medical Center. After a series of testing, followed by a biopsy, she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. She now requires a CT scan to further check if the mass has spread to her lymph nodes before she can be referred to an oncologist for further treatment.
The cost of the CT scan (447.96) must be paid by the family before it can be scheduled. Her father is a janitor earning a minimum salary and they have no savings left. The family has been spending everything on Krizza's medical care and have been borrowing money to meet their other expenses. The sponsor site director has asked Chalice to cover the cost of this critical CT scan so Krizza can meet with the oncologist.
