David is 15 years old and is sponsored by Chalice through our Mombasa Sponsor Site in Kenya.
A year ago, David was rescued from the streets of Mombasa by the Sisters of St. Joseph - our sponsor site partner. As the oldest of three children, he had spent the previous three years forced to beg for the needs of his family, as his mother was unable to support the children. David is now under the care of the Sisters and attends school at Abraham's Education Centre, where he is in grade six.
David has an abnormal growth of skin around his neck and part of his ear. It is very uncomfortable to live with, and causes him ongoing pain. He needs surgery to remove the growth, as well as radiotherapy (four sessions) to help prevent it from coming back. He will be in hospital for five days and there are medications required. He must have the money to pay for all these items, as well as travel expenses to the National Hospital in Nairobi. The Sisters of St. Joseph do not have the money to cover these expenses, which total $2,704.
Our sponsor site director has come to Chalice requesting that we assist with payment of the costs for the surgery and treatment for this young boy who has endured so much hardship.
Funding Request: $2,704.00
Critical Need: KMM1018
Please note that any donations that exceed the request will be used to fund other critical need emergencies that may arise.
