John Peter’s umbilical hernia surgery, Bangalore, India

John Peter, 41, had swelling and pain in his abdomen. A test and scan led to a diagnosis of an umbilical hernia. The doctor told him he’d need surgery.

He was admitted and underwent surgery on the same day, and his doctors discharged him the following day. Upon discharge, he followed his instructions to take medication, eat non-spicy meat, and return for a check-up after five days. His subsequent appointments have confirmed that he’s healing well and he’s in much less pain.

John Peter’s surgery and medication generated hospital bills of $1,478.74 CAD. This is more than John Peter earns in eight months, and his family needs his wages to meet their daily needs.

Mery Mythili brought their financial concerns to her Chalice family circle, called Shanthi CCG. Her group members verified the bills and reports and passed a resolution to apply for critical needs funds from Chalice.  Given the family's financial situation, the Bangalore site is requesting help for John Peter and his family. These funds will cover his hospitalization, medication, and healthcare services.
