Nickson, known as Nikki to his loved ones, was a father of two, an entrepreneur and a shining light in his community in Nairobi. His family and the Chalice Nairobi site mourn his passing from a tragic accident.

Chalice critical needs - medical and burial expenses for Nikki, Nairobi, KenyaNikki lived and worked in Nairobi with his wife Beryl and two daughters, Briget and Winslet, both of whom had Chalice sponsors. He was a member of Njiru Stars, a group the Chalice site founded five years ago to help underemployed men start their own businesses. Nikki established a small construction unit and garnered a strong clientele base.

In late August 2022, Nikki and his team left their worksite late after a long day's job. Nikki was hit by a car at a busy traffic junction. Passersby came to his aid, and he was rushed to the nearest hospital. The doctors referred him to another hospital for specialized emergency treatment and intensive care. Nikki had sustained serious head injuries and his ribs were severely damaged. He was still in the ICU when he succumbed to his injuries. Beryl, his wife, was with him.

The mourning family is not financially able to cover Nikki's emergency medical costs or his burial expenses. Nikki lost his elder brother last year to a long illness, devastating his widowed mother. Their brother Maurice, the only sibling now to care for his mother, has a young family of his own, whom he supports as a mechanic.

Aware of the financial crisis Nikki's passing has caused for the shocked and grieving family, the Chalice Nairobi site team has created a budget to take care of his medical bills and final expenses. The budget is $2,880.47 CAD, which includes Nikki's hospital bills - including the mortuary and post-mortem charges; ambulance charges; transportation of the body for burial to his home village (approx. 470 km from Nairobi); the coffin, wreath; buying of drinking water, milk, and bread for the family for the journey, plus a food basket for the family.

The family will be forever grateful for the loving people who have held them close since the time of the accident and passing of their loved one.
