Chalice Critical Needs Funding for sponsored child Alexander in Arica, ChileAt the age of two he was diagnosed with Hirschprung Syndrome, a condition that affects the large intestine. He suffers from severe and constant constipation.

Alexander had undergone several procedures over the years until 2017, when doctors decided he needed a colectomy to remove the colon and cut a part of the large intestine and attach it to the rectum. The day before the surgery, the doctor said that he had found living tissue in the colon and that they could save it with extended and sustained treatment. The cost of the medication for an uninterrupted 12 month period is $877. His mother must be trained by a doctor and nurse to administer the medication.

Alexander's father is 77 years old and receives a small pension, while his mother who is much younger, works in jobs provided by the State Employment Program, for which she earns half of a minimum wage. The family cannot afford to pay for this medication.

Our Chalice sponsor site director is requesting funding to assist the family in paying for these medications. The doctors believe that, with this treatment, Alexander will heal.
