Project Type: Health
Project Code: ITT0619
The Tamil Sponsor Site is run by the Kumbakonam Multipurpose Social Service Society (KMSSS) the social service wing of the Diocese.
With 10 sub sites spread over four districts of Tamil Nadu, this site works with 307 villages in Thanjavur, Ariyalur, Trichy and Thiruvarur districts. The site started working with Chalice in 1999 and currently has close to 1300 sponsored children. Most of the sponsored children are from the Dalit caste which is one if not the lowest caste in India.
Run by the Diocese of Kumbakonam and the Franciscan sisters of Immaculate Heart of Mary, Sagayamatha Hospital is located in a rural area providing primary health care to 5 million residents in 202 villages.
However, the hospital is deprived of specialty healthcare facilities to treat acute and critical cases. Being in a rural area there is a lack of health services to meet the health needs of the community.
The Sagayamatha Hospital is in need of an X-Ray machine and ultrasound scanner for the hospital to strengthen and complement the existing health care facilities. The cost of this equipment is $ 31,757.63.
The aim of this project is to purchase an X-Ray machine and ultrasound scanner for the hospital to strengthen and complement the existing health care facilities for the area. This equipment will allow the hospital to treat more patients locally so they don’t have to travel long distances in a great deal of pain to reach a larger health centre.
Budget in Canadian Funds: $ 31,757.63
Note: Prior to posting this on our website, a $30,000 pledge towards this project has been received. Therefore, we are looking to fundraise the balance of $1,757.63.
Please note that any donations that exceed the request will be used to fund other Community Projects/Human Development Projects that may arise.
