Project Location: PENNT, Bolivia
Project Code: CP-BPE0124
The Parroquia San Carlos Borromeo (St Charles Borromeo Parish) is the nerve centre of their community in Cochabamba, Bolivia.
Currently, their parish centre hosts the after-school support program of Chalice’s PENNT site. The centre also runs a soup kitchen for children in the area, and it also functions as a retreat centre for the local Franciscan community, the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary. The dining room has been open for more than ten years, serving nutritious meals to children in this underserved area of Cochabamba.
There is a constant flow of community members, since it is a meeting place for Chalice family circles and catechetical, parish, and religious groups from the chapels sprinkled across the city's southern area.
The Franciscan Missionaries of Mary have lived in the house at the parish centre for seven years, and they help in the pastoral care of the centre and the PENNT school support program. They have seen the rainy seasons come and go, bringing heavy rainfall and humidity. Each time, new leaks appear.
Today, the whole roof is in poor condition, and the subsequent leaks and cracks are making the San Carlos centre a health and safety hazard. They’ve calculated that at least 700 meters of corrugated iron must be replaced immediately. The new roofs will be calamine with waterproofing paint.
The PENNT site staff have requested $7,040.80 CAD to take on the necessary renovation work, to provide clean and comfortable environments for the children and adults who attend the dining room and activities at the San Carlos parish centre.
Budget in Canadian Funds: $7,040.80 CAD
Please note that any donations that exceed the request will be used to fund other community projects that may arise.
