Photo Friday: Our top 5 “Celebration” Photos!

Welcome to Photo Friday! Each Friday, we share photo collections of our favourite shots from our sponsor sites around the world.

Here in Canada, people living in the province of Quebec are celebrating Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day, a day marking the birth of Saint John the Baptist.

Our Top 5 “Celebration” photos show us all the ways you can celebrate the good things in life – and even keep celebrating when tough times arise.

#5: Sweet Stuff

You can never have too much dessert, right? Hannah, hailing from Tondo, Philippines, seems to think so. She took up a business class while in school, where she came up with the idea for a convenience, candy and dessert shop. A part-time job earned her the money to set up shop, and she opened in 2020.

Here she is, holding her homemade graham balls – a delectable dessert made of graham crackers, condensed milk and peanuts. Yum!

#4: Dance

When something good happens in life, it’s hard to resist the urge to boogie-it-out in celebration. Sometimes dance is even a pick-me-up when you’re feeling down.

Giuliana has been sponsored for several years, and takes business courses at university. But on top of that, she’s also a competitive dancer! Whenever the sisters need a dancer for an event near the Villeta site in Paraguay, Giuliana is always ready to celebrate her talents with others.

#3: Costumes

Costumes are a great way to celebrate, and they don’t have to be for just Halloween! Check out this bunch who got dressed up for a costume party near our sponsor site in Ternopil. Which one is your favourite?

#2: Helping Others

When we’re blessed with opportunities, we can help by passing the celebration on to others. Father Matthew took that to heart.

He saw many women in his neighbourhood lacked livelihood skills, and realized he had an opportunity to help. He launched a tailoring class at the Unonio parish office in Mbinga, and dubbed it the Saint Vincent de Paul tailoring class.

The women can now make uniforms and dresses, which helps cover their expenses. They’d like to get a permanent space and more sewing machines.

#1: Prayer

When anything happens in our lives, good or bad, we can always turn to God. Even if we don’t feel like celebrating, we can always be thankful for God’s love. And we know that when Easter rolls around, we can thank God for the most important celebration of all.

Happy Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day!
