In Canada, many holiday festivities have passed and the dreariness of winter is in full swing. It’s in these times that we need to pause and reflect on our blessings, our loved ones, and the things that bring joy, happiness, and cheer to our hearts.
To help bring some light and laughter to your week, we’re sharing our top 5 “cheerful” photos from our sponsor sites! In spite of the many obstacles they face, many of the children and families we serve are filled with the light and love of Christ. We can see their deep inner joy reflected on their faces!
#5: Beaming boys
These boys from our Mercy Care site in Kenya are eager to pose for a photo with bright, beaming smiles! You can almost hear the laughter and cheer they bring to the scene. Their school is supported by kind Chalice donors, so they receive meals and extra support to ensure that they get the most out of their education.
#4: Grinning grandma and grandson
This grandma and grandson pair from our Ternopil site in Ukraine are thrilled to be spending some quality time together. You can feel the warmth and love between them! At our Ukrainian sites, families often invite older relatives to live with them in order to care for one another and to save expenses. Chalice support and sponsorship often goes a long way in these large and loving family homes!
#3: Jumping for joy
At our Neema site in Tanzania, many of our sponsored children live under the care of our kind Sisters at orphanages. These children receive education, food, clothing, and love. They also take time to celebrate life’s joys with their friends! These children are expressing their happiness after helping out in the orphanage’s gardens. Each face is filled with cheer!
#2: Smile and sanitize!
Hand hygiene is so important, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. At our Samar site in the Philippines, children line up to wash their hands before and after school meals. This little boy seems to be having a wonderful day at school! This school is supported by Chalice’s nutrition program, so the children who attend have the energy to focus on their studies throughout the day.
#1: Cheerful little children
This schoolyard at our Haiti North site is bustling with cheerful faces and laughter! These elementary school students are waiting to receive their daily egg and yogurt, provided through our nutrition program. They’re having a great time socializing, and can’t seem to contain their excitement for the upcoming day!
