Photo Friday: Our top 5 “food sharing” photos!

Welcome to Photo Friday! Each Friday, we share photo collections of our favourite shots from our sponsor sites around the world.

It’s currently mid-summer, the season of BBQ’s, potlucks, and picnics! (albeit, with a little social distancing this year.) All around the world, families and communities love sharing food and experiences with one another to express friendship, love, and affection. This week, we’re sharing our top 5 food sharing photos we’ve gathered from our sites. We hope you enjoy this fun food collection!

#5: Bunches of bananas

In Mkongo, Tanzania, mothers from Chalice family circles were excited to hear that our founder, Fr. Pat, would be their guest for the afternoon. Many mothers offered him samples of goodies from their farms such as nuts, eggs, and of course, bananas!

#4: Savory snacks

No gathering in Paraguay is complete without empanadas and other salty snacks, including breaded cutlets. This mom from the community of Sol Naciente, a part of our CMAVIL site, would like you to feel at home and enjoy a savory treat!

#3: Pop in for a refreshment!

On a hot day in Haiti, who doesn’t want a cold drink? Madame Créjuste received the gift of a fridge from kind donor through our gift catalogue. With it, she was able to start a home business selling cold sodas, juices and water to her community!

#2: Spice of life!

Families in Kodaikanal, India, held a homemade food festival to showcase their favourite recipes to the Sisters and staff who run St Teresa’s school. This young man would like you to try his family’s recipe for sundal, which is spiced chickpeas with coconut!

#1: A welcome guest

Volunteers on a Mission Trip to Ukraine were greeted with the beloved tradition of bread and salt. The bread, presented on an embroidered cloth with a little portion of salt on top represents the highest form of hospitality and friendship. When the tradition began, salt was a luxury item, making it a sign of high esteem to present it to a guest.
