Fernando is one of six children in his family. He has four brothers and one sister. He lives with his mother and his siblings in a one-room wooden structure that his family shares with others, in Guatemala. Fernando is in grade four and his best subject is Math. His favourite activities are writing and playing basketball. At home, he is responsible for chopping firewood. Fernando would like to become a soldier when he grows up. At the Luis Amigo Sponsor Site, families are provided with food, educational support, and medical assistance. Families also get the opportunity to participate in workshops related to nutrition, finances, and microbusiness.

A SPECIAL NOTE TO SPONSORS FROM THE USA. We will send you a receipt for income tax purposes following the end of each calendar year. Chalice is not a registered charity in the USA, but Canada and the USA do have a tax treaty which allows a tax deduction under certain conditions. Basically, a resident of the USA may be eligible to claim a deduction against taxable income received from Canada. Please consult a qualified financial advisor to review your own personal situation. You can still sponsor if you don't require an official income tax receipt. We have many sponsors from the USA and we send them our heartfelt thank you.
