Christine, her brother and sister, live with their grandmother and their two aunts in a two-room brick house that has earthen floors and a metal roof, in Serenje, Zambia. Christine is in grade seven at Chikwanda Primary School and her best subject is English. She enjoys reading books and playing netball with her friends. At home, she helps with all the household chores. Christine would like to become a nurse someday. At the Serenje Sponsor Site, the Sisters of Mary Immaculate provide children with school fees and materials, as well as proper nutrition. Parents and guardians attend business training workshops to learn how to supplement their incomes.

A SPECIAL NOTE TO SPONSORS FROM THE USA. We will send you a receipt for income tax purposes following the end of each calendar year. Chalice is not a registered charity in the USA, but Canada and the USA do have a tax treaty which allows a tax deduction under certain conditions. Basically, a resident of the USA may be eligible to claim a deduction against taxable income received from Canada. Please consult a qualified financial advisor to review your own personal situation. You can still sponsor if you don't require an official income tax receipt. We have many sponsors from the USA and we send them our heartfelt thank you.
