What is the Extent of Damage at our Sites?

Our Chalice family is fortunate as both our Sponsor Sites did not experience the great extent of damage and devastation that is seen in Port-au-Prince.  As of Tuesday evening, 19 Jan 10 all of the communities that our Sites service including Previle and Carrefour-Sanon have been visited. Initial assessments at Haiti South indicate that there is minor to moderate damage to homes and some community infrastructure. In Haiti North our community experienced the shaking but there is limited damage to the buildings from the quake but some damage from the relentless rains before and after the earthquake will need repair.  Chalice will assist these affected families with disaster relief to rehabilitate and or build new homes to make them safe and provide adequate shelter. In the interim our Sites are working with the communities to identify safe places for people to congregate and sleep at night.  Where required the need for temporary shelters will be addressed.
