Become a Volunteer

Chalice is looking for sponsors and donors who would like to volunteer their time and talent toward supporting us in various ways.

Chalice's mission states that 'As a ministry within the Catholic community, our mission is to create and nurture caring relationships of life and love wherever we serve.' To be able to do this, we need volunteers from within your Catholic community that share in our mission to nurture the relationships we have already made and create new ones.

Speakers Wanted

· Preach in a parish in their diocese, province or country

· Share their love for the poor of the world

· Share their faith that God will provide His love and guidance to those in need

· Experience the realization that to change one life is to change the world

Chalice is a Canadian Catholic sponsorship organization helping the poor in Catholic Missions throughout the developing world.

As a group, the Chalice speakers typically offer 110 Mission Appeal weekends each year, which take place in parishes from coast to coast. The ministry of a Chalice speaker is to visit these parishes to proclaim the truth about poverty and injustice in the developing world. They bring with them the smiling faces of children who have known little else but hunger, hardship and abandonment.

Perhaps you remember a speaker visiting your parish?

Chalice offers our speakers

· The satisfaction of working in your region for the poor of the world

· A stipend for each weekend preached

· Support staff and flexible scheduling

· Travel expenses reimbursed

· Ongoing training, information and support

Ask any of our speakers that are the voices of the poor through Chalice, they will tell you that their ministry is a ministry of love.

All our speakers give thanks to God, knowing that it is through our Lord that they are able to proclaim true witness. Their ministry is a voice for those unheard.

Testimonies from Chalice Speakers

Over the past 10 years our speakers have crisscrossed the country raising awareness for the plight of those in need through their heartfelt homilies.

In hundreds of Catholic Parishes, thousands have been motivated to act on their witness through sponsorship of approximately 42,000 children and elderly, and given donations to help the community projects.

We would like to share with you some the thoughts and feelings offered by our speakers.

“It is a humbling experience to know that I have been privileged to go out and be allowed to take over the pulpit in a parish, proclaiming the gospel message ‘God loves you, now you love your neighbour’. It is rewarding to know that after a little effort and spiritual persuasion I am able to present children to the congregation. ‘It is a wonderful feeling realizing that thousands of destitute children and elderly will be sponsored from around the world. I have done my small share while knowing I do God’s work." Deacon Eugene

“When I speak about the needs of children in the third world, it reminds me of the time when I was hungry, naked, homeless and hopeless. What a depressing memory. There is one thing about poverty, it is inhuman, and one can't get used to it. That is why Jesus said, "I came to bring good news to the poor." To love Jesus, is to love our little brothers and sisters. It delights me beyond words, when people sponsor a child. I know that his prayer was answered and God's love becomes REAL.” Deacon Tom

“Through Chalice all of us, whether staff member, sponsor or speaker, have been given a special opportunity to ‘help one of the least of these who are members of my family’. We are blessed that we have been chosen.” Deacon Mike

“For me the ministry of speaking humbly but boldly for the poor through Chalice begins to address the disparities and suffering that need to be overcome everywhere… and especially so for children.” Deacon Anthony

“I do this service for the poor, for the children of God, for the church. And mostly because it is the most gratifying love filled experience of my life.” Deacon Gerard

“The ministry gives us an opportunity to meet so very many good people eager to help those that the Lord has called the least of my brothers and sisters.” Deacon Armando

“In many areas of ministry I sometimes wonder if I’m really making a difference. Through Chalice weekend appeals, results are immediate. Knowing that you have helped to clothe, feed and educate children throughout our world makes the ministry of deacons so much more meaningful.”Deacon John

“Being a speaker for Chalice lets me engage in the ministry of ‘mission’ where I actually see and experience the work of the people of the Catholic Church in Canada." Deacon Ted
